Ceramic Edge Sharpening

Today we took our skis back to Francois Baud in Morzine for their first service.  It's about £30 for a full service so we're hoping once a month is enough.  Ideally, it should be once every two weeks for average skiers with a wax touch up every three days, but it's a bit steep to have your skis serviced so often.  The ski tech told Natalie her skis were pretty good so she's just having a wax and edge sharpening.

Clearly i ski with my eyes closed because the huge gouges in my base need the full treatment apparently.  We got asked if we wanted "ceramic edge sharpening" which refers to the disk they use to finish the edge of the ski off with.  Apparently it gives a sharper, smoother finish than an ordinary stone sharpener will do.

After dropping off the skis we drove up past the Nyon Telepherique and checked out the bus stop at the base of the Vallee de la Manche, where the long backcountry run from the top of Fornet ends up.

Why are we checking out bus stops?  Because we wanted to be sure there's plenty of snow at the bottom in case we ski the Vallee de la Manche tomorrow.  And there is!  Very icy but plenty to ski on - more than at the bottom of Morzine itself.

In amongst visiting the ski shop and doing a recon of the valley we entered text into various editors and created many little files.  We exchange these files for money, which we then use to buy food which we eat to remain breathing.  So far air is free, so that's good.
