On Saturday we moved from our apartment in Montriond to our new one in St Martin, which is just outside the minute mountainside village of Seytroux. We're about 10 minutes further away from the main lifts here, but it's quite a considerable amount cheaper. Also, we have a fabulous view of the valley from here.
Err, the car was a bit full getting here.
Apart from the fact that its absolutely freezing in here, we're settled in quite nicely. The apartment has been standing empty for the last few months and so will take a while to heat up. i'm typing as fast as i can to keep warm. Shortly, we're off to invest in a fan heater because, although the wood-burner is very warm when its on, its a pain to get it going all the time.
And this is us in our new place, before the onset of hypothermia when we were still able to fashion our, now frozen, cheek muscles into smiles.
Moving into a freezing apartment was timed quite perfectly with the arrival of the first heavy snow for the last few weeks and consequently the temperature has dropped by about 4 or 6C. So it's now about -4C. Anyway, it's good for the skiing because we had the most awesome powder up at la Grande Terche, a small, unconnected resort in the Portes du Soleil. No really, the powder was superb - it felt like we were flying about 2 inches above the snow - excellent!
More snow today and we're staying in to enjoy the company of our two special friends: source control and Eclipse. Tomorrow we're skiing again in the morning and sometime this week we're planning a trip to Samoens.
I think this is Mont Evian which we glimpsed between the clouds while out skiing on Saturday afternoon.
Right now, we're about to head out to the laverie and then go get some thermal blankets and dig a hole for shelter - apparently it's warmer nearer the Earth's core - at least, that's what they said in the Matrix anyway.
